The aim of this educational program is to teach participants how to tell their story safely through a short video (a reel). ReelsLab is a hands-on contemporary media workshop where young people learn to create short-form social media videos using their own smartphones. The focus is not on technical perfection, but on storytelling, self-expression and safe digital behavior.
Participants create meaningful content in a purpose-built, professionally lit environment. They learn how to craft an engaging opening (a hook) that captures attention, how to structure the core message of their story, and what emotion or key idea they want the viewer to take away at the end.
Key topics include meaningful content versus digital clutter, as well as digital safety. We also explore what a digital footprint is, what to consider when sharing content online, and how to do it responsibly and safely.
If they wish, participants can upload the reels created during the program to their personal social media accounts. With the authors’ permission, Tallinn TV Tower may also share selected videos on its own social media channels.
The ReelsLab environment is refreshed several times a year. The set-up is currently open (since 5 March) was created in collaboration with Tallinn Botanic Garden, Rikets Lilled, the Energy Discovery Centre, Levira, butterfly researchers and collectors Teet Ruuben and Aare Lindt, and inventor Aare Baumer.
