This school holiday, young people are invited to join ReelsLab at the Tallinn TV Tower. It’s a practical and inspiring contemporary media workshop where participants learn how to create short social media videos, or reels, using their smartphones.
At ReelsLab, technical perfection is not the focus. What matters most is learning how to tell a story, express yourself creatively, and do it in a smart and safe way. The workshop gives young people a better understanding of what makes a good short video, one that captures attention, communicates an idea, and leaves a lasting impression.
Bring your friends and come tell your own “TV Tower story” through video.

What happens in the workshop?
During the workshop, participants learn the building blocks of a good reel: how to create a strong opening hook, how to shape a short but effective story, and how to end a video in a way that leaves the viewer with a clear thought or feeling.
Participants will have the chance to try filming, think through story structure, and take their first steps in simple video editing. The workshop also introduces the difference between a reel and a story and explains how social media algorithms affect the way content is seen and shared.
Safe and smart content creation
An important part of ReelsLab is learning how to create and share content responsibly in digital environments.
Together, participants discuss topics such as digital footprints, privacy settings, visibility of online content, copyright, trolling and unpleasant comments, and the hidden cost of so-called free apps. Young people are encouraged to think before posting: Is this something I will still feel comfortable with in the future? Does it reveal too much? Is it meant for friends, or for the whole internet?
Learning through discussion and experimentation
The workshop is practical, supportive, and discussion based. Young people are already familiar with smartphones and social media, so the role of the instructor is not to lecture, but to guide the process, support ideas, and help participants reflect on both creativity and digital safety.
The instructor helps participants notice the key elements of a good story, use simple filming techniques with a smartphone, and understand how to share content more consciously and safely, all while keeping the atmosphere creative, encouraging, and supportive.
A practical skill for today’s world
The workshop uses platforms and apps that many young people already know, such as Instagram Reels, TikTok, CapCut, InShot, and other easy video editing tools. Participants learn what they can do directly on a smartphone — cut and arrange clips, add text, create rhythm, use music, and shape a visually engaging result.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained practical experience in turning an idea into a short video that is thoughtful, creative, and safe to share.
