Family Day – 20 August 2026
On 20 August, we invite you to Tallinn TV Tower to celebrate Estonia’s Restoration of Independence Day with an exciting and memorable Family Day.
This special day brings together national defence, safety and community spirit, offering engaging activities for visitors of all ages.
Tallinn TV Tower played an important role in defending Estonia’s freedom during the events of August 1991. On Restoration of Independence Day, we invite everyone to remember this story together and enjoy a day where history, the present and the future meet. All Family Day activities in the outdoor area of Tallinn TV Tower are FREE OF CHARGE.
Throughout the day
Visitors can learn about the work of the Estonian Defence League (Kaitseliit), Women’s Voluntary Defence Organisation (Naiskodukaitse), Police and Border Guard Board, Rescue Board, Estonian Red Cross and Neighbourhood Watch and take part in workshops, information sessions and demonstrations.
In the outdoor area, visitors can explore military equipment and gear, try air-rifle shooting, discover drones, communications equipment and engineering equipment, test a mortar simulator, take part in rope training and learn how to be better prepared for crisis situations.
Family Day will officially open at 12:00 with a concert by the Tallinn District Orchestra of the Estonian Defence League. Throughout the day, there will be information sessions by the Rescue Board and the Police and Border Guard Board, a hand-to-hand combat demonstration and a history seminar by the Kodukaitse History Committee, led by Aadu Jõgiaas. A creative crafts area will be open for children, and the day will conclude with a concert by Black Velvet at 17:00.
A diverse street food area will add even more flavour to the day, with RedisFood, Uulits, Friika Friik, Kausik and SK Teams, as well as Balbiino and Premia ice cream kiosks.
Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Tallinn TV Tower’s observation deck and exhibitions as well – admission is subject to the regular ticket prices.
