History program “August 1991. Defending freedom”
The goal of the educational program is to introduce students the role of TV Tower in Estonia’s restoration of independence. By completing the program, students will gain knowledge about the history of TV Tower and its connection to Estonia’s path to independence. During the program students will be divided into groups (5 groups) with each group assigned a specific year related to Estonia’s independence restoration (1987–1991). Each group will receive materials, including gap-fill texts, photos and information about key figures associated with their assigned year. As students work through these materials, they will find answers to questions such as what, how, why, when, who and where. Through solving these tasks, students will learn about the significant events and key figures of their assigned year and their role in Estonia’s independence restoration. By the end of the program, students will have analyzed the process of Estonia’s restoration of independence and understand the steps involved in nation-building.
